Hi,

Just curious - anybody know why these are currently listed as exactly the same price with ocuk?

Seems a little odd, especially as the Q9650 is a huge leap in price.

I would have still thought the Q9450 would have been a little cheaper than the Q9550.

No one's going to buy a Q9450 when they can get the Q9550 for the same price

The Q9450 is being phased out.

Fair enough - but if the 9550 is being sold for the same price as the 9450, then who would buy the 9450 at all? Would expect 9450 prices to drop to clear final stocks if its being phased out/replaced.

Hard to say. Look at the current prices of the E6*50 chips. They're still more expensive than their successors.

Duhhh I just placed an order for a Q9450, didnt even spot the Q9550. Hopefully they'll let me change the order

It was £217 about 20 mins ago, so it's certainly gone up a bit in the past few mins.

But it's still worth the extra few quid. Give them a call first thing in the norning and they'll adjust your order.

Even stranger - the q9550 is now showing as £3 more than the Q9450 (+ vat), rather than £7. :D

Still - considering mine is currently running at 3.4Ghz, faster than the top of the line quad which sells for over £975, what's an extra pound or two? :p

Curioser and curioser :p

Well I spoke to them this morning, I have to wait for the finance agreement to arrive back to OCUK before the order is live, so will call again monday.

Is that 3.4 on air? I want to OC my setup when I build it, but I havent done any overclocking before so am a total NOOOOOB when it comes to this stuff.

My Q9550 is @ 3.4 on air too... doesnt run past 50 degrees at full load either :) Only needed 1.15v to get there.. Havent really felt the need to push it higher, though its tempting to see how far it will go :)

Edit: Was my first OC too, very easy.. Just read around the forums a bit, made my settings, checked it was stable and then posted in the oc section for someone to check it.. Only got a tiny thing wrong so all good :)

I got a q9550 yesterday from a competitor for £217 free delivery , just chucked it into my rampage formula motherboard and cranked it up to 3.6ghz (450x8) and now got it running prime stable with 1.17v on the core and temps are around 48c full load on air :D

happy as a pig in u know *** :p

still tempted to see how far it will go though ;)

what is the highest anyone has got this chip on air or what should i expect to get out of it

Yup thats 3.4 on air. Using a Zalman 9700. Seems to be running a bit hotter than others on here, reaching mid to high 60's in the two hotest cores under prime95 small FFT test. Still, runs a lot cooler when gaming etc.

Now at 3.5 (410 x 8.5) with voltage at its rated VID (1.2375v) if I'm going to push it anymore I think I'll need a better cooler, or water cooling.

Sounds like there are some good chips out there to get high speeds at lower voltages than this? :D
