Hi, I recently grabbed a second 8800GT and I am trying to SLI them but they seem rather hot.

They idle at 55-60 and break 70 when gaming. I get the usual stutter as the heat increases so I need to do something about the heat.

Is it worth getting third party coolers for them ( 20 quid a card ish) ? and keeping them or should I be looking at a single 260 or possibly 2x 9800gtx+ ?

Slightly worried about voltage regulator heat, not all of them come with replacement cooling for it.

Obviously I dont want to spend money for the sake of it, I have two 8800 Gt's already so is the best option the aftermarket coolers ?

Assuming you have all the case fans possible then first try setting them on a constant fan speed to keep them cool constantly or fan profiles for gaming. With the equipment I have in my signature theres a lot of heat but doesn't cause me any problems :)

Tbh they shouldn't really artifact or anything at 70c mine used to be mid 80s and ran fine. You could try removing the stock cooling and re-apply the thermal compund or replace it with MX-2 or similar

Hows the rest of the temps in your case? Decent airflow?

Well the cpu is idling at 50 but its a Akasa stock cooler, looking at replacing that with a freezer pro or similar.

I have set all the fans (5 x 120 mm) on duty cycle 100% but they dont seem to get above 2600 rpm.

I ran left for dead in sli with everything maxxed out and played a whole campaign last nite, it didnt crash but the temps were 75 on the primary and 71 on the secondary card.

There's a tool from evga I think. But that only works on evga cards afaik.

You could get one of those antec spotcool fans and place it blowing air across the cards.

spotcool is a good idea, not thought of that but they are not much cheaper than a replacement cooler.

I guess the question now is spotcool v Akasa AK-VC03-BLUV Vortexx NEO VGA Cooler ?

Went with a ghetto option , I have two 80mm fans stuck on the front between the two cards blowing air on to the back of one and across the top of the other, taken the temps down by 15 degrees and it is quiter as well :)

Thx for the suggestions, I got there in the end.
