Hello - Im getting annoyed with my current system and have my eye on the Q9450 when the price (hopefully) comes down. However Im not too sure what the best futureproof mobo/chipset is to get for this CPU. Im thinking the P35 chipset but isnt that old now? its prices are nice though. Also spec me some decent RAM at least DDR2 800Mhz - that may in the future OC to something higher.

So what do you guys suggest is the best mobo/RAM for this CPU atm?

So far I have decided on these but need ppls opinions.

mobo = asus maximus formula x38 (or is P35 better?)

ram = ddr2 8500+ 4gig 5-5-5-15

Thanks for any advice

PS probably will upgrade to this when next gen cpus come out and these become cheaper (missus will castrate me otherwise)

Edit = I currently have an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, A64 4800+, 3Gb OCZ Platinum Revison 2 @ 2-2-2-5 and EVGA 8800 GTS 512
If I got the Asus P5K Premium/WiFi-AP P35 with a Q6600 and good memory would I notice a big jump in performance?

If I've learnt anything from building computers, it is its better to get a cheap powerful motherboard twice, than watch an expensive feature packed one (680i for instance) be rendered obsolete by advances in technology.

Basically, when I got my 680i I would have been better off getting a cheap P965 board, then a P35 board when I wanted to upgrade.

Hope that helps.

thx for reply.....so would a P35 + Q6600 be the upgrade to get? and would I notice an improvement in games?

Dont want to spend money and not see a noticeable improvement tbh

In games I'm not sure you would get a noticable improvement, unless its something like Supremem Commander you're having slow down with. In fps's, you'll probably better off with a 9800 GX2
