Basically found a qx9650 for an amazing price and rejig figures to make it work in budget (eg smaller hard-driver, cheaper case but would have changed case anyway in a year so doesnt matter) so wondering if th qx9650 is honestly that much better?
i understand that it has unlocked multi's which can help with overclocking,
i was gonna pair it with a p5q-e, and your suppose to be able to hold 400+side buses well with these mobos.
and ofcourse with the 10x multi was thinking iam onto a winner.

anybody want to slap me with a wet fish and tell me it wont work? or that indeed iam onto a near 4ghz stable machine?

Well in a couple of months you'll be able to get the x10 Q9550 for the same price as the Q9450 is now (~£220).

So unless the QX9650 is under £300 you'll be kicking yourself in a couple of months.

:confused:Q9550 has an 8.5 multi and the new Q9650 will have an 9x multi.

Christ good point :o Been playing with my x9 Q6600 too much lately.

A Q9550 should still be fine at 4ghz running at 471x8.5.

I don't know if you knwo but from the discussion I'm not sure you've realised...

The QX9650 is an unlocked multi chip. You choose what multi you want, so you can have 10x, 11x, 12x etc. You basically rule the motherboard out as the limiting factor in your overclock, which is quite important for a quad as the mobo quickly becomes the limit.

Go for the QX9650, at that price it's a bargain.

well as said ive seen 400bus's stable on p5qs so was thinking that with a 10x multi would hit 4ghz

but that may have been with water cooling =S
to save me starting a new thread may as well ask in here 2st can a thermal right 120extreme fit in (the much dreaded) antec 900?

qx9650 is £360
theres also qx6850 for £270

At this price, there is no question. Get the qx9650. Even with the Intel price drops, you will not be sorry.

Been seeing a lot of these chips recently in the 420-455 range as well, be it special offers or auctions. Still does not beat 360 though.

GET IT !

This is the thing though.

With a QX, the FSB speed really doesn't matter. You can hit 4Ghz by upping the FSB by 1Mhz and the multi to 15 (if you want) which would be possible on every P35, X38, X48, P45, 650i, 680i, 750....blah blah you get my drift ;)

400FSB should be attainable by most boards, and then you can use the 0.5 multi's to overclock by 200Mhz at a time, increasing vcore appropiately.

It's so simple, that's the beauty of QX's.
