Q945o or q6600 go

If you can wait the 3 or 4 months for the Q9450 then do so.

Tho they'll not be all that different tbh.

I can't remember who told me, but the Q9450 will have a lower multiplier, so if you are going to be overclocking you will have to hit much higher FSB than the Q6600 to achieve the same clock speed.

Food for thought.

im pretty sure Jokester mentioned that. however i think the Q9450 will have better out the box performance. and as most charts are in US dollars and they dont always translate well to £ :( its kind of hard to say about price.

im sure the Q9's will clock better though, smaller factory processes and all that

True, but if not already purchased, it would mean having to get a new MB and possibly ram to be able to clock to those high FSB's. This means more £££'s, for what could be very little clock difference between the Q6600 and Q9450 (when both overclocked).

In the above case, the amount of £'s needed to be spent in comparison to performance increase would be like throwing your money away, no? I could be wrong, I am relatively new to computers/overclocking.

The Q9300 is the price equiv of the Q6600, you have to remember these charts are not RRP they are disty/reseller cost, the $/£ version is almost always correct £130-£140 will be the reseller cost price with grey stock filtering through later giving a few quid cheaper.

Q6600 - Q9300
- Q9450 New quad core price point
Q6700 - Q9550

Will the new fsb of 1333mhz support ddr2 then as I have 4 gig of ocz 6400 and I don't fancy getting rid of that? Q6600 is 1066mhz fsb. :)

If you can't wait then the decision is easy. The Q6600 is a cracking deal anyway.

Yes I am tempted as I would prefer my new setup to be implimented pror to christmas to make way for the new gpu's and direct x 10 games. tough decision really but the price of the q6600 is nice)
