what would be a good upgrade on a very low budget was looking at the AMD Piledriver FX-8 ?

I've had a similar thread going marv, albeit not necessarily from a budget point of view. The general consensus is unless you've got a desperate need, hang on a few months until Haswell appears, as other ranges should take a drop in price.

On a budget, you'll struggle to get anything that is a significant step up (I'm running a Q9550 at 3.4), so it probably isn't that sound an investment.

Im in the same position. With CPU prices suddenly rocketing, I am holding back at the moment. I would like a faster PC but my trusty Q9550 is holding up well at the moment.

6-9 months ago, I would have said get a 3570k.

However, with being so close to haswell and prices still being quite high I think best option is hold off upgrade.

The cheapest cpu that I would upgrade too now would be the FX 8320, but ideally you want a 3570k.

well i bit the bullet and have had the 8350 and im now allso ready for amd steamroller.
