I need help!

I just moved house AND re-installed windows AND set my cpu back to stock. Previously my Q9550 was happily sitting at 3.5Ghz, never going over 65C with a Tuniq Tower.

Since then I have noticed some weird issues e.g. the multiplier switching from 8.5 to 6 randomly and WEIRD temperature issues. Stock my temps under load are reaching 60C at times. When clocked to 3.5Ghz the temps climbed to 125C and then the system died (unsurprisingly!). What the hell is going on??????

Switching from 8.5 to 6 is normal .Intel saving 'leccy by downclocking when full use of cpu not required. Speedstep if memory serves correctly.(you can I hear turn speedstep of if you wish)

So far as your temp issues are concerned - would suggest you re-install the Tuniq tower and see if that solves your problem. May be it got knocked about a bit in your move !

The multiplier changing is intel speedstep, if you want to turn it off disable EIST and C1E in the BIOS.

As you moved house check that the HSF is still correctly fitted, it may off got knocked!
