Hey, a friend of mine whos upgrading to nehalem said that he'd let me buy his old Q9550, but its an engineering sample.

Is it bad? i've googled it a bit and it just says it might not be as good as the retail chips.

any heads up would be nice :)

you sometimes get multi unlocked ES chips too, I've had an E6700ES which wasn't great at all but I've seen plenty that have been brilliant.

I had an E6300 engineering sample and it was multiplier locked and it was a pants overclocker. Dont forget the ES chips will have little bugs and problems that may have been ironed out before going retail.
