hi there i was wondering how far can i push a q9550
running at 3.4 atm temps idle 36 36 37 and 39 on full load temps arn't going above 41 on all cores, need some advise as am new to quads

Conventional wisdom says upto 1.4v VCORE and VTT and under 68C (Intel rated 71.4°C) load temps for the Q9550 and whatever clock speed you get thats within those limitations.

Theres some evidence that vcore is good for upto 1.46v but intels guideline is 1.3625 for in spec 24x7 useage.

Depending on the motherboard 3.825-4.2gig overclocks aren't uncommon with a little effort and more is possible if your prepared to take a little risk.

new chip so if i can hit the 3.8 4.0 i'll be happy running on a asus p5q e dulux mobo and blackdragan ram i'll have a little fiddle when its seated itself in so far quite impressed :)

RAM might hold you back once you start to get above 3.6gig - and I'm not a fan of RAM OCing tho if you don't touch the DRAM voltage and properly memtest it should be ok. From my experience RAM doesn't last long once you start upping the voltage on it.

if i can get 4 i'll run the ram at stock settings becuse the cpu i had before was a e6300 o/c to 3.62 same mobo same ram ram was running at 1. somthin volts
i'll play with it in a few days time and will post my results

3.8ghz should be achievable with a bit of tweaking, particularly on a board such as the p5q deluxe. Of course it will also depend on your particular chip.

Depending on wether the chip is a good clocker or not, may depend on voltage required for a given clockspeed, had a nice 1.200 vid, ran it at 1.216v for 3.8ghz in the p5q deluxe.

Mine does at least 3.6Ghz on stock voltage but the board is crap for quads and won't go a lot further due to being fsb limited. P45 boards should get to 4Ghz+.

I seem to struggle past this with all the VID setting stuff!
Otherwise I think I could get to 4.2Ghz with mine. Would like to ramp up the FSB and use a lower multi but something does not like higher bus speeds as the graphics card spins up to 100% fan and stays like that!

Dont leave it, keep on going, keep a record of your setings for 3.6ghz, preferably wrote down, this way youll have known stable settings to work from.

lol i only fitted the chip yesterday found out its a eo version and its a a stepping if that makes any sence to any1
ok just did a fsb of 500 with the mutiplyer at 8.5 it started windows then crashed lol 4.27 ghz lol

I hit 3.8ghz with my q9550 before hitting a wall , upon doing some research a lot of P35 motherboards like my P5K Deluxe give up around here on quads around the 455fsb mark

ive got a p45mobo i hut 3.8 aswell am going to fiddle with different settings and see if i can hit it thanks for the info about the cpu wall
