Q9550 > How to achieve higher FSB with lower VCORE???

I've seen a few UD3P crop up recently in MM but the Asus P5 boards are also known to be very good q9xxx overclockers and hit 500+ fsb.

Keep your eyes peeled for me then. ;)

What about a EP45-DS3R or one of the P43 boards, I won't be running more than one graphics card in my system?

4.2GHz with 1.2v is pretty dam special Greebo, I've only seen one or two others on such a low voltage with that clock speed, and iirc was over at the xtemesystems forum. :)

:

Yeah my cpu appears twice on that forum with previous owners ;)

I think PaulyD had it first.

have a look around, when i was after a new motherboard i was looking down the X48 route and read the fsb are more limited on them, similiar also with the P43, will overclock but nowhere near what the P45's can do with the 45nm processors - dont quote me though :D

It all depends on what speed overclock you want, off course that should not be deciding factor, take into account pcie- lane speeds if dual-gpu setup, slots, features etc etc....

oh, and as myself and Greebo have also mentioned in this thread, the dual-bios feature of the Gigabyte is a massive plus, if you screw up your bios you would normally need to get the bios chip replaced, im never going back to a board with single bios chip no more, i feel safer now :D

it comes with the silent heapipe yes (but i have no room to attach it because of the heatsink), my board is also the DDR3 version.

The UD3P is P45 Chipset and also a very very good overclocking motherboard, theres only slight differences such as DDR2/DDR3, the rest are pretty similiar such as the phase design and gear switching. I also notice no heatpipe from the south to north bridge, sata ports are moved slightly and i cant see any onboard debug led's.

Yeah, I just spotted the DDR3 thing that's no good for me. EP45T boards are the DDR3 ones. There's an EP45-Extreme going for £110 at the mo, seems a good price.

yeah thats not bad, i payed £135 for mine brand new, ive yet to see any real world difference between DDR2/DDR3 to be honest. And you are right, the EP45 is the DDR2 version, the EP45T is the DDR3 version.

You will actually find more people can hit amazing overclocks with the Gigabyte boards, dont get me wrong the P5Q's will do ok, but i would bet my life overclock enthusiasts would opt for the Gigabyte ;)

Nothing wrong with my P5Q-E. I can hit 4Ghz, but need the time to fine tune the GTL refs. (I hate clocking some times it can drain your spare time).

But then is a couple hundred mhz worth the extra time.

from what ive seen not really, but any extra free performance is better than none as long as you dont stress everything too much :)
