Q9550 or Core i7

hey, wouldnt you class the UD3 as a budget low end mobo?

the board for the 775 i speced is meant to be quite good, probably equivalent to a £200 X58 mobo

Every x58 board I have seen is excellent. Even the UD3R will get the i7 920 D0 up to 3.8GHz no problem.

That P45 s775 board is good - but if you compare a 3.8GHz q9550 with a 3.8Ghz i7 - the i7 wins by a mile.

However, its not your CPU but your GPU and RAM that are holding you back in games. Upgrade them before you worry about doing a mobo/cpu upgrade, I say.

I guess the best solution then is to upgrade to i7 now and still get a good return on my 775 parts instead of tuppence next year: D

imo moving to i7 is the way forward, there will be more chips out, as mentioned, for the x58 boards in the future. I will be upgrading from the q9550 in a years time I think

Never seems to be mentioned in these threads, but the i7 draws significantly more power and runs significantly hotter.

nar i got a cooler already. cant you get it above 3.2Ghz or have you not tried yet?

I just havent tried. Settles into 3.2 without any issues though so Im sure its got potential - need some more free time to see what I can get.

+ 1 for GTX275 and 4GB RAM, best value for money option anyway.

Just checkng the prices now the total has dropped £50 since few weeks ago.

I7 920 oem
6gb patriot 12800
Ud4 mobo

Not bad if I can get £250+ for my 775 parts :)

I would be happy with a UD3R. Runs SLI and Xfire which no 775 board does that i know of. All round it should perform better than any 775 board ever made.
