I have a q9650 @3.6ghz is the AMD Bulldozer FX-8 Eight Core 8120@8150 much of an improvement with the extra cores?

i want to update gaming rig
(q9650/4gbDDR2/5850)

so long since I looked at hardware lost as the best system for the money to get. whats the sweet spot for sub £400 and sub £300 ram+cpu+mb?

get a 2500k z68 ap-d3,8 gig of hyper X ram and a Gelid tranquillo.

comes in at £315 thats your mobo/cpu/ram setup of choice for £300(290 without the cooler)

or wait 3 weeks and see what ivybridge brings sub £400 i'd still say the above unless you run software that can utilise hyperthreading in which case sub the 2500k for a 26/2700k

can't remember but I think its a cosair 600w

had it running at 3.8 before but I got a **** board its a ABIT IP35-E which was a budget board and it won't OC any higher :(

Lol:p

I would actually suggest you overclock your cpu further to 4Ghz. That will give you a nice performance bump.

Q9650 is still a powerful processor:cool:

I'm finding that my Qx9650 is starting to bottleneck me in games.

It's a good processor, but will hold you back in games, especially games like Skyrim etc...

Loved my Q9650, had that running at 4.4ghz 24/7 @ 1.39v - great chip :)

I would upgrade to a 2500k build or if you can, wait for the ivybridge release which should be the end of the month

I understand that you are bored :)
But I would seriously consider just overclocking that CPU a litle more, if indeed it is an "issue" at all. Unless you like playing with benchmarks etc the "wow" factor of an upgrade might well be disappointing and, at best, short lived.

Depending on what games and resolution you play at, and preferred eyecandy settings, you might want to consider upgrading the GPU before the board, CPU and memory.
If you haven't got an SSD drive maybe that would be something to consider..?
