Got my Asus P5Q-E and Q9550 over the weekend been trying to clock it up to 3.4Ghz but i keep getting code 1 error in OCCT.

I'm new to this so i'm learning as i go along but i don't know what to try nextaand i'm not sure if everything i've done is correct?

What does Code 1 error mean?

And should i up my CPU voltage more or something?

Also why does one core always seem to get a bit hot than the rest?

Thanks.

Looks like you need more voltage through the chip. Not too sure on what the "norm" for 45nm quads is but if it's producing an error in half an hour, you need more voltage. Keep the max voltage put through the chip (shown in CPU-Z) at about 1.4v. Also, slack the ram timings off to 5-5-5-15 for now to remove the RAM from being the culprit.

One more thing, and it's only 1 word really: JPEG! :p

Don't go for 1.4Volts, in my opinion you would be pushing the voltage to high. Try upping the volts to 1.2Volts (windows) and work down from there (reckon 1.15 in windows would be enough) You really need to post all of your bios OC settings to get proper help though

steps

1) change mem latencies to auto
2) change VTT (termination voltage) to 1.3~
3) change NB voltage to 1.25~
4) enable load line calibration
5) up your fsb to 420~ then go up steps of 10mhz each time and test for stability.
6) When you find that you cant go any further you can raise the above settings slightly but not higher than:

VTT max 1.4* (careful not to go above this one in particular!)
NB max 1.36~
fsb 480~
cpu voltage max 1.368~

once you have a nice stable overclock you may try and tighten your latencies again but just so you know:

if you tighten your mem latency and reboot and nothing appears on screen you need to reset your cmos. Do this the easy way by unplugging your motherboards 24 pin power connector for a few secs then reconnect it. Then change the settings back in bios.

hope this helps :)

Thanks for th einfo thing was on sunday when i had mem latencies on auto i seem to get the BSOD?

So i was advised on here to put my timings in like that?

Thogh i'll give it another go .

Thanks.

what mem do you have ?

your best bet is just to key in the exact latencies

If it helps...

Using an Asus Rampage here, 8gb Ram, Q9550 with a tuniq tower (near max fan speed). Think my cosmos s sport case helps quite a bit too.

Just hit 3.6Ghz with 425 FSB, 8.5 Multiplier, 1.2v (asus auto voltage)

Reading 65, 58, 58 and 54 in Real Temp 2.75 beta after 5 hours with Prime95.

Very happy . Got my 4870x2 idling at 43C too.

Now getting 3000 extra points in 3D mark vantage extreme!!!

my mistake, i thought you had 5-5-5-15 mem and you were tightening to the above. In that case, stick with the mem timings as you have them and follow the rest of the steps, you should get 3.6/3.8 easy with them.

Ok that seemed to do the trick now.

Though my temps on one or 2 cores hit 78/80 at full load, Might have to look at getting this down somehow?

I run a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and i've added a smaller fan to the other side of the heatsink too.

I'm idling at 46,47,44,50 for all four cores atm.

Thanks for all the info so far.

yea thats your problem, buy either a tuniq tower or a noctua, id go for the noctua but im being bias since i have one :p

prob drop like 10c with that :)

and yea those temps above are high, I wouldn't go over 70 really if I was you.

Good going so far tho!

Yeah i thought they were to high myself from what i've beee reading around here.

Is there anything between the tuniq tower or a noctua really other than you owning the noctua?
I did notice in your thread you'd added a fan to the other side did yo uhave clips that came with the noctua to do that are did you make something up?

Thanks again for your time and help on this.

Everything comes with, i just ditched the noctua fan and added 2 sharkoons, clips the lot are included, noctua do a really great job of packaging their products :) oh and those sharkoon fans work a treat, they are cabled with 3 pin connections allready so no extra work needed!

worth getting yourself a decent cooler, lowers those temps, 80 is a bit high for a stable system, 70ish max as a rule in my book =]

Ok thanks for the info i'll save up and get one of those for sure was looking at the sharkoon fans to worth getting the sharkoon 2000 rpm then i guess.
