QDC's all sticking

So, have a number of Koolance QDC's, but all seem to be sticking terribly, making connecting/disconnecting an absolute and utter nightmare.

Spent a lot of money on them to make adding/removing things easier, without having to drain system completely when ever I wanted to change something.

Now, I suspect it could be down to using the mayhems aurora nebula blue with the particles in which has led to this. Which was just a poor choice it seems as it would settle so quickly.

Of course, it could just be what will happen with all coolants, as that is all I have used since setting this all up. Is this something that happens a lot?

Also, what are the odds of being able to clean them all properly that they will work nicely again?

Probably going to see if can get some time off work, clean things out completely, and go with a fluid less likely to cause issues, if it is down to that more than likely...

I would have thought socking them, and giving them a bit of a scrub in hot water might help?

I have never used QDC's, but would have thought you clean them the same as fittings etc...

i have had this on 2 so far, they are both QD4, have broke 1 by trying to force the collar, the other works but its risky as you have to push collar back whilst inserting the male, not ideal at all. Keep meaning to contact Koolance regarding this but not got round to it yet :(

as always Mayhems aurora fluids are for show systems and simple loops so the pearl in it could be causing a little bit of an issue, but i know other people have had the same problems with QDCs with other coolants so it certainly wont be entirely down to it.

Its a common problem with them qdc and its a known problem, nothing to do with aurora how ever as said above with mayhems Aurora you should use simple systems.

I just ordered 2 sets of QD3's. I'll be using distilled water in my loop, so am I likely to be OK?

At 50 odd quid, I really want them to be working as they should!

The Koolance QDC's are known for this issue, the regular silver/chrome ones seem to last longer but the black ones are now notorious for it. If you Google "Black QDC owners" you'll see threads about them.

I purchased 13 of the black QDC's when they were released and after 5 months this is what they looked like, some were seized together so tight I had to use a vice and a pair of pliers to get them apart.

I used Mayhems pastel white coolant, but it doesn't seem to matter which coolant you use according to the threads.

I will not trust anything from Koolance now, that they can release something of that poor quality to market is one thing, but they will not honour any warranty unless you use their own brand coolant, this includes distilled water.

Plenty of threads about their warranty practices too.

Toothy, that's pretty much exactly what mine are looking/becoming like.

What a waste of money. Hopefully can just leave system as is for next few months and will figure out in mean time how will redo my loop to make it easy to change things.

Yep mine too, i'm using red X1 but it wont be the coolant as my silver qdc's are fine, its the black ones.
When i first noticed that one had seized, i was trying to insert on a gpu block and it just wouldn't go in and as i inspected the QDC i also noticed red staining on the paper towel which i always lay on mobo etc just in case of a leak. Good job i did as whom would have been responsible there for possibly a killed motherboard or gpu???

@Mayhems, any thoughts on this issue???
@OCUK, would it be worth contacting Koolance regarding this as they aint cheap, not sure on a warranty situation here and more often then not stock is very low, well always on the ones i want! I and am sure others would like to know where we stand with this, to clarify it is the black female variants.

Found this response from Koolance on another forum

So I finally got a response from Koolance

Hello,

We've seen that issue happen when our black QDx fittings are used with
different combinations of liquid other than our pre-mix liquid coolant.
It often happens as a reaction between the third-party additive and the
fitting, or as a result of the lack of anti-corrosive agent in the fluid.

Unfortunately I cannot repair or replace the fittings under warranty terms due to the cause of the issue.

Regarding warranty, this was posted in the same thread, again from Koolance

It's not as if we designed the fittings to purposely fail when used with any other coolants/additives. With the vast array of third-party coolants and additives, there's no way to test all of them with our products. Thus, we can only back our warranty when our liquid is used, because we have tested them to work without fault with our coolant.

So it looks like unless you use there liquid your warranty is void, people should be notified of this at purchase.

I don't think they've even been shipped yet. I'll have to see if I can just get them to swap for the silver ones before posting.

Wonder what's up with the coating they're using?
