When i am playing online games, i always find i'm usally the first in the server.
I'm just wondering what part of my pc is responsible for this.

i'm getting a new hard drive, and i dont want to lose the fast loading times. Is it my connection, ram, hard drive, or cpu thats related to load times or all of the above.

As far as i am aware i only have a cheap standard 300 gig sata drive.

Bit of everything I'd say but back when I played BF2 I remember borrowing my friends RAM to increase to 4x512mb from 2x512mb and the loading increased ten fold so if I had to say one then your RAM.

Although might be your internet connection you on 50Mb line?, too many different variables to define one part but I'd say a Raptor HDD would make it better without fail.

i have 300GB raptor 24MB connection (5-20ms pings) 6GB ram

im in the server at least 5-25 seconds before anyone on TF2/CSS

i have to wait for waiting for more players then watch it reset like 5 times in css lol

These are the main factors which influence load times in online gaming:

-RAM. If your system uses more memory than it has physical RAM, it'll slow things down a lot
-HD performance. A slow or fragmented drive can delay things if it's a game which needs to load a lot of data
-Internet connection. High latency or packetloss can slow you down, this probably isn't so much of a factor in modern games however as the bottleneck in those is more likely to be down to the above.

Id say its a bit of everything really :/

From my experience Id say RAM/Hard drive are the main factors in game loading times with a little of your Internet connection.

Also, lower GFX settings seem to have an effect when loading new maps etc. I guess theres less to load.

I know what you mean, I'm usually the first or maybe second player to connect to a css server.

Thanks for the info :)

I current have a 300gig maxtor drive ( i think) it came out of my old pc which a bought cheap a few years ago so liek i said before i doubt its anythign special. I'm getting a new 1 tb drive, so i dunno with it been larger it will be slower.

My connection is nothing amazing a 8mb bt line. I play games on full settings, so i dont scrimp on them.

Its the same for me on tf2 i'm usally waiting 5 seconds for the next person to join the game, i dunno its kinda a nice feeling of power.
