QLED vs OLED

Hey guys,

I know QLED is basically just fancy LED tech, but a lot of the early reports when they were announced sounded very positive about what it's able to achieve.

Now the Samsung 2017 TV's are available to buy, are there any reviews available from reputable sites that have commented on the QLED vs OLED debate, or even just reviewed the new models. All I can seem to find are articles from early February when the TV's were first announced.

I'm in the market for a new TV and looking at the QE55Q7F, it's £2200 which is obviously more than the LG OLED's but I've always had Samsung TV's so would be great to stick with them again this time, however if the difference between the two is still miles apart, I may have to look at getting the LG

Thanks

They want you to think these are genuine quantum dot TV's but they aren't. At the moment QLED is just a conversion of light process.

OLED is just better for most things ...

Apart from image retention, brightness (so HDR) and motion.

True - although lets face it, mostly ironed out and they have cycles to prevent it purposefully. Brightness - True compared to the brightest LED's but absolutely fine for 90% of people watching in a room without the sun directly on the screen and motion, more down to the manufacturers processing as LED and OLED are very similar in their base stats anyway. For instance the Philips OLED released last year has superior motion to the LG but was more expensive, had weird ambilights and was generally overlooked as it was released too close to this years (now starting to appear in stores but a lot more £££) but now Sony, Panasonic and potentially others are making their own OLED TV's (using LG panels) it remains to be seen how far the motion can go based on individual processing.

None of what you said was incorrect but they are not severe or as noticeable. Most OLED owners comment that the LG motion is just as good as any LED they have had but in any general viewing with a decent source OLED just looks better.

+1 oled
The motion should have improved on the new oleds, when they eventually get reviewed, as a result of panel impovements giving reduced burn in - the motion is currently poorer
due to burn in concerns and keeping average brightness and on time low. Panasonic electronics might be better at motion too.
As has been written &said on other forums, Samsung are trying to price QLED as a premium oled compatible product,
I think the qled prices will crash as soon as the reviews open the consumers eyes (lol : samsung 10 year burn in gurantee)
It will be interesting to see what the opposing advertising for the 2017 LG oled's will be, but I think they sell themselves.

It is a pity there is no oled competition to drive prices down, I have never found data on oled fabrication costs verus led (is the yield on oled much poorer with high
manufacturing costs/plant investment?)

I have not seen anything on ks7000/8000 panel evolution for 2017, or what non-oled panels panasonic is using ?

That sounds like a monster price... Just buy a Samsung 55 ks7000 for about 850 then an oled with the remainder in a couple of years.

For what it's worth, I have a ks7000 stoodles and if I had that kind of money to burn I'd buy an OLED. Dont spend mad money on an lcd imo
