The majority of people I speak to say qlogic, because 'it just works better'.
My experience is the tools are easier to use, and when upgrading between 5.2->5.3 when the drivers went upstream in RHEL I had issues with Emulex but none with Qlogic.

Are there are measurable/tangible reasons why someone would go for Qlogic over Emulex?

IBM supply Emulex in their X series servers....company i am at now has literally thousands of the things and if they are problematic i've not heard of it.

It's Emulex in the p-series too.

I prefer Qlogic, just because the drivers are easier to install, and the tools are easier to use. This might just be because I have used Qlogic more.

The drivers are also in RHEL as you say.

I'm not keen on them still using silly failover settings, most applications don't play nice with that. I always had to change the Queue depth, but that was for a pretty specialised application (IBM SVC).

I seem to remember the built in driver with RHEL not being compiled with that failover setting, but if you try to specify it either way, you make it go into default settings ignoring everything else you try to specify.
