Looking at buying a NAS for home, mainly used to backup family photos, videos of the kids and also my wifes coursework and music.

Want to be able to stream this to various devices around the house (Phones, Ipad, Laptop, PC etc) and also plug the NAS into my 4k TV for 4K content.

Was looking at something small like the QNAP Tas-268 as this had 2 bays which gives a bit of room for growth, would start off with a 3TB HDD and then go from there.

I read that you can run KODI on this, and also Plex, ive not used either really, ive dabbled a little with KODI on my PC but realised it would be suited to being sat on a NAS rather than my own PC lol.

Has anyone used this NAS? if so have you used it with KODI or Plex? specifically im interested in knowing what the 4k streaming is like? im worried the cpu on it might not have the grunt to do the job really.

The other option is i build my own NAS, ive read a little about FreeNAS, and i guess i could build something like an ITX or something to do this, what are peoples thoughts? i would like something out of the box if possible which wont cost me the earth with a little room for growth, however if there is nothing like this currently, im interested to hear what kinda specs i need to look at for building a FreeNAS box to achieve this myself?

Cheers all
