Hey,

After reading the Galaxy fold thread for a few months ago, I'm interested in how it's going for the peeps who decided to buy one.

Do you/can you have screen protectors? Do cases work well? Does it scratch/blemish easily?

I'm in the market for a new fancy bit of tech now, given that old reliable has a cracked screen and my RTX 3080 fund is burning a hole in my pocket.
Am genuinely interested in any advice or QOL issues or advantages you've found coming from a "regular" smartphone. Given that I'm a bit of a clumsy flummox, I don't want to get in over my head with the delicacy factor.

Thanks

It comes with screen protectors applied to both screens but you can get third party ones too. I'd recommend changing the main screen protector asap in fact as the preapplied one feels a bit spongy and affects the image quality.

I've tried four or five cases now and they've all been total garbage - either because they don't provide decent protection or they add too much bulk to the already bulky phone. I've given up trying to find a decent case and have a small neoprene pouch I can put the phone in if necessary.

I was really uncertain about the durability of the main screen but so far, so good. Having said that I find I use the front screen waaay more than I thought I would (probably 75% of the time).

When folded the phone is an absolute tank - it's really solid and mine doesn't have a mark on it after six months of heavy use (tempting fate I know!).

Overall, I'd happily recommend one if you can get a good deal or a decent trade-in (but I don't think they're worth the RRP).

Have you tied the official Samsung case? Assuming it doesn't come in the box with it.

I've seen them going for around £1400 new, which to me is a more reasonable than RRP.
At what point do you think the level of innovation represents acceptable value for money?

It doesn't come with a case, or much of anything besides the charger. It did come with some wired headphones (contrary to what reviews at the time said) but for the price i'd expect a few more bells and whistles.

I see that the price has come down on the official Samsung case but it got awful reviews when it came out as it was £95 and only provided light protection to the rear bit of the phone.

As for value, it's very much a subjective thing and where you draw the line is going to be different for everyone. Personally I think around £1000 would be fair (but then I think the phones that currently cost around a £1k are horribly overpriced).

I picked up the official leather case for £40 ( Amazon used , was like new ). I like the feel of the leather case and it provides some protection without looking tacky or being overwhelming. Definitely not worth the RRP price though.

Like most on here I eventually removed the inner screen protector, no concerns so far , still scratch free and feels a lot better without it. I left the outer screen protector on, although my nail catches it as I'm opening the fold up and overtime it's peeling away. Still reluctant to remove it though as it will pick up light scratches for sure.

I still find the Fold 2 a joy to use, decent specs all round and a competent camera. Always the phone I reach for in day to day use. I do wish the outer screen had a full size display a la Huawei's new Mate X2 but it's not a real concern.

I think I'm largely convinced, what I might do is keep a look out for some deals on lightly used or like new phones, and see if I can get one below the 1k mark.

I would have just pulled the trigger immediately if there wasn't some question concerning the value for money aspect.

Thanks for that guys.
