We have 3 pc's connected to the network, one of which spends a lot of time downloading from newsgroups. I have had a little play around with the QoS priority settings which just seem to limit the bandwidth a program (well, port) uses based on whether you choose low, normal or high priority. What I ideally want is a way of scaling the bandwidth so it just reduces when other things are trying to access the internet.
The newsgroups also hit my pings bad (expected I know) making any online games umplayable. Is there anyway of keeping the pings of the game higher and newsgroup downloader lower?
I assume this is done using the UBR, CBR or VBR setting, but i'm unsure how this will effect bandwidth usage and what to set the pcr/scr rates too.
Any help with these settings appreciated, or software that could be installed that would help assign bandwidth a little more intelligently.
Thanks
