Ive found out that i am being traffic managed most evenings on my Virgin 100mb Broadband, its so bad its reduced to 1mb download sometimes

I was wondering if i bought a router with Qos would i be able to restrict my upload speeds so i wouldnt get traffic managed?

Im using a couple of xbmc boxes for streaming and the son plays xbox live most evenings

Just wondered if it can be done

Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not the speed that's causing the traffic management, it's the amount in which you are uploading or downloading. Virgin have this all on their website, however I think the cap to 1mb may indicate another issue, I was almost sure it was a 75% reduction?

Haven't been with vm now for a few years, but this info is easy to find on their website.

Yea its the amount you upload. So even if you restrict your upload speed, if you upload the same amount (albeit over a longer period) you will be capped. I don't think you'll be able to restrict your upload speed to a usable rate to circumvent the upload caps.

Download isn't restricted at all on the 100Mb package, so that speed shouldn't be affected at any time unless there is congestion.

Thanks for the replies

Im on the 100mb package with virgin

Just turned my Openelec box on left it idle and it uploaded 301mb no wonder im being traffic managed

Session Time 0day 00h:08m:25s
Session Data Downloaded 13 MB
Session Data Uploaded 301 MB

Thats my problem

Why do you think your Openelec box is responsible for the data consumption?
Are the superhub bandwidth stats accurate?
