A while ago Gigabyte marketing produced a guide to overclocking a I7 920 to 4.0 Ghz on a GA-EX extreme board

One of the settings to set is QPI-VTT at 1.515 V, normally most forum members would scream at this high voltage , why has/did gigabyte suggest it?

Is is that this board could handle this? Is 1.515 v in fact actually safe, or are they just overclocking for the sake of it and not worrying if the chip lasts a week or a year ?

1.515v is stupidly high for a i7, it would make your chip degrade much faster, possibly cause long term damage e.g. doesn't clock as high also your temperature would be pretty high even on a decent watercooling loop.
