Quad Channel set up?

Is a quad channel set basically two sets of dual channel sticks?

Say for example I was using 2x4GB sticks on a dual channel motherboard that had four memory slots and I decided to add another pair of 4GB sticks to those two extra slots, would that work?

Quad channel doesnt exist yet, LGA2011 will have it sometime next year.

Two sets of dual channel ram on a dual channel board is still dual channel.

Well the Sandy Bridge i7 doesn't support triple channel. But will it support 4 sticks since they're still dual channel?
