Quad channel & Socket 1155

I read on ather post that quad channel only works with socket 2011 so am slightly confused that my new pc (on route with dpd) is specced with

Asus P8Z77-V LX2 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

plus

Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9
1600MHz Quad Channel Kit

I never thought of checking before I purchased as it was a OCUK spec Insanity Gamer Pro build.

I'm slightly confused.

The memory controller on the system determines on how the memory operates.

Quad channel is sold as a convenience & are matched pairs, on your system it will run as dual channel as the memory controller is dual channel.

Sorry for being an idiot but does that mean it will just use two of the sticks of RAM?

It will still use all 4 memory modules but these will be configured as dual channel mode.
