Quad core advice needed

After a little windfall I need some advice. Currently my machine is fitted with a quad core duo Q6600 2.6gig overclocked to 3gig. As I am happy with the rest of my rig I was thinking of investing in a quad core extreme processor. As these range from £570 to £830 is it worth the expense? Will I notice an appreciable difference in speed? The machine is used primarily for gaming with a little office work. Any comments/advice would be appreciated.

Tbh i think it would be a waste of money, especially for gaming.

How about a 4870X2 and a 24" or larger screen, much better for games id have thought

Personally, I would sit tight with your current rig and save your windfall for the new Intel Core i7 (Nehalem). These chips are reportedly due in Q4 this year but from some of the reports, the low end i7 blew away the top end quad cores of the current chip generation.

I'd also expect the chips to be expensive, plus you'll need a new motherboard, but I would say it's a worthwhile investment ;)
