Quad core can thay run on win xp ??

My Xeon does & it's clocked & I run 2 GFX cards in Crossfire as well, XP loves everything except more than 3.4gig of ram, But then XP don't need no more than 2gig of ram.
I am an affinity obsessed tweaker now though :D

Microsoft did release XP 64-bit software. Same price as vista hp I think though or a little bit cheaper.

I tried XP64 and drivers for some hardware is hard to get also i have found vista to be a lot better as i would expect. You can run a quad on XP no problems but vista is where a quad does shine and if you have a quad you shouldn't notice much difference in day to day things running on vista.

they were hard to get a long time ago. driver support for XP x64 is rather excellent these days.

i know this because i run XP x64 as my main operating system.

Fair enough it was a while ago that i tried it and gave up on it due to finding drivers. But i can't help think if your going to the exspense of a quad core system why would you want to have xp64 and not go for the better vista (i know that last comment is subjective) which has much beter handling of resources. Horses for courses i guess but i wouldn't swap back to xp now for love or money no matter whether it was the 32 or 64bit versions as i am and have been happy with vista since sp1.

XP and XP64 are more different than first appears. XP is basically Windows NT/2000 with an updated GUI and improved compatibility with windows 95/98 software. XP64 is Windows server 2003 with the XP frontend for use on personal computers and workstations.

2003 has improved multiprocessor support (Though standard 32bit xp is very good with multicore too), and XP64 has the same underlying systems. Very little difference between Vista on a quad or XP64. True that it can be more difficult to get XP64 drivers, but I found drivers for everything I have except my sony ericsson phone.
