Quad core cooling...

Heya guys... i have the QX 6700 core 2 Extreme on an Abit IN9 Max mobo and was wondering which heatsink/fan/cooler i could use.
I have searched the web and overclockers forums ( i havent been lazy honest) and theres just tooo many to choose from so would appreciate maybe a few replys in this thread with opinions/experience of what would be a good suitable cooler... ie: top notch heatsink and fan if adequate although i dont mind going water cooling if i am advised thats the better way to go.
Please bear in mind that it will probably be run without o/clocking but id like to maybe clock it up a teeny bit later if i feel the need, tho nothing extreme.

i get 26c idle with my ACF7 on my overclocked 6300, its a very good cooler and the thermal paste pre-applied does a good job
*edit* i also get around 44c load temps, ill be moving to quad core and i believe that the ACF7 is great for the price and i dont plan on changing it with quad core

I have Q6600 with ACF7, it is not up to scratch for Quad core. 60-65C Load temps, seated well.
Tuniq tower 120, without a doubt.

No but it certainly makes it much easier...

The ACF7 probably wouldn't be upto a quad if you were overclocking but would be fine if you weren't... unfortunatly seems to be some batches of ACF7 pro which are slightly concave and don't give as good cooling, mine keeps my E6600 under 55C max load even at 3.6gig, tho the fan sometimes is maxed out there so if I clock it beyond 3.6gig the temps shoot up.

same question,

but are the Tuniq Tower and Noctua tried and tested on quad cores?

My xeon x3210 is chucking out a hell of a lot of heat?

An the gemini ii canna cope.

Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme - BAR NON, it is THE BEST aircooler, apparently 6c cooler under load with HOT core2 processors, sits at 47 load on a 3.96ghz core2 dual core (stable, something Tuniq Tower cannot do), so can also easly handle quad core, has the ability to mop up heat at silly levels, check anandtech for review and those numbers

Load temp I havent really tested at stock, I did a test overclock and it was running at 2.8 fine, but getting way too hot on load for my liking.
At stock with fans turned down it was at 60 on all 4 cores playing Supreme Commander for 3 hours.

The Thermalright ultra looks nice, but I don't think its worth me replacing my Zalman 9500 for another air cooler if I'm planning on using water soon.
I think I've just mounted it badly, I did it in quite a rush.

Just to check..... What should the stock vCore be on these chips (pretty sure I've got it set right)

pinkfloyd, i dont know what stock v-core is, but i have mine set to 1.285v in the bios.

which is the lowest option i have for the chip.

Now i thought the v-core should have been lower, but i dont know lol :D

I'll drop mine down a bit lower, I have mine set at 1.325 in bios I think :/
If I go much lower than that on my board the numbers turn red, which I presumed meant undervolting.

Will try it later :)

the reason for that i think, is the boards are not really designed to support the xeon range of processors.

This is only a guess.

2 mins and i will find out the voltage its supposed to run at lol
