Hello,

Im about to build myself a new computer but need to know if cubase "SL3" supports quad core processors. By this I meen will SL3 balance the useage of the 4 cores.

I know that the new Cubase 4 does but at the moment I cant afford a new computer and the cubase upgrade so I need to know if I can stick with SL3 for now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Stu

you may be best to ask the vendor as im not sure there will be many people able to help on here though prove me wrong!

Im pretty certain its highly multi-threaded.
Especially due to the nature of the software, and the fact that SX3 is too.
But do make SURE, that you remain on XP, or at least dual-boot so you can run it on XP.
Cubase 3 + variants of 3.0 have huge problems on Vista.

I've found Cubase SX3 doesnt particulary scale well (performance) with 4 cores as it does with 2. A faster dual core would be my preferance. I know Sonar 7 has a multicore bug which affects it in a similar way..

Hey... off-topic, I just clicked you siggy and I'm intrigued.
I live in london and im doing a course in music performance currently but if you could e-mail me at I'd love to have a chat about some of your courses as a possible eventuality.

Cubase 4.1 onwards fully supports Dual / Quad.
earlier versions will hardly tickle the 2nd 3rd and 4th cores.
Hope this helps.

Yes, I did have some "trade in" versions in stock, but pretty sure I'm all sold out of them now, I sometimes have the odd spare education version too which can be a pretty good saving. C4 Studio full retail trade in was £169.00 Inc.
