Quad core upgrade?

Hi all,

I have a really old box with a foxconn 45gm motherboard and an E2140 cpu.

I am thinking about giving it to someone who needs a machine for video editing. But I am not very familiar with 775 motherboards. Can I drop a quad core in there?

I have seen some Q6600s for decent prices. Would this work?

what is the motherboards model number?

can only find, G45GM, G45M and G45M-S

on the board it says: Foxconn 45GM 45CM

Not really sure what to make of that.

it also says: n15235

So thats a no to quad then?

But what is Intel® Core™2 Extreme? That is supposedly supported.

Dont know, but thats the cpu support list for the latest and last BIOS update.

only what you see there is any good.

Arg. Oh well. Thanks a lot for the help. Reckon I will stick with the old chip and try to get a bit of an OC on it.
