quad core - what software?

anyone know what apps take advantage of quad core cpus?

very few do, a couple of video encoding apps, like xvid, and maybe crysis does.

Mainly 3d rendering and video apps.

Use the search engine this comes up constantly. Expect up and comign games to be quad core supported also. Especialy alan wake which i beleive is being heavly multi threaded as they claim they could not do such an intense physics system without one.

I use two - Folding at Home and JAlbum which makes photo albums for the web. I think Photoshope Elements only uses two.

TMPGEnc 3/4 XPress and DVD Flick are 2 encoding utilities that use multi cores, and work very well with them.
