hi all some information i need ? im running a core 2 duo chip e6400 with a Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLi nForce 650 mb. 2 1gig OCZ Special Operation Edition DDR2 PC2-5400 .BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 320MB . what differance would i be getting with a Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600 G0 SLACR, 95W, S775, 2.40 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 8MB Cache chip . cheers

well it wont clock higher than 2.8 Gig with that board - i got one last week and thats the max it goes too

I have the same board and have been considering a quad....

What happens when you try to overclock further? do you just get the 'no video but fans spinning' or something else.

Cheers

Thanks, I might have to change my plans.

Have you tried just setting it straight to 1333 or higher ?

I have an issue with BIOS v14 where my E4300 (same x9 multi) will run at default 800FSB (1.8Ghz) or @ > 3Ghz (1333FSB) but anything inbetween results in a non boot.

As the CMOS is a pain to reach I can normaly reboot to the last working settings just using the reset button. I've still to figure out why they put power and reset buttons on the board but use a jumper for the CMOS - can only be reached with longnosed pliars in a P180

Also the overclocking is very ropey unless I use unlinked for the memory.

Cheers

just tried 1333 and it booted but had to up vcore to 1,45v. i was shocked ] but it seems a bit unstable - running temps are up by about 5oC
will try higher now in a min
gonna check what bios i got running and what the latest is

Thanks for the info, I have to run my E4300 @ 1.45v to get a decent OC but the Quads seem to need less voltage and produce a fair bit more heat..

My board seems fine from around 1333 to 1530 which gives me approx 3.45 Ghz though I'd be happy enough at 3.0 with a quad as I need 1.575v for the highest OC's and that's pushing a little too hard on air, even with a dual.

The BIOS on these boards is a nightmare, once you find a bootable setting it's robust but the number of times I've had to hit reset for minor changes .....

Some need a little more voltage on the N bridge to get the higher OC's though I removed the N bridge HSF and replaced the thermal pad with AS5 then fittem a 40mm fan @ 7v. Seems to have made a fair improvement to the robustness as I just leave this on Auto now and it's fine. As yet I haven't tried anything other than me E4300 so I don't know if the 1530 is a limit of the CPU or the board. I can boot at 1600 but if bombs before I hit windows.

Interested to know how you get on

i upped the vcore to 1.45v and she didnt seem very stable - dropped it down to 1.4v and seems to be running tidy
temp aint bad underload is 52oC idle at 39oC with all the fans set to low in the case

will try upping it bit more
