Ok, so just a quick question. I need to rebuild my desktop after the motherboard went. it was only a old 939 setup but it served me well. I have two nvidia 8800GTS which I use for my 4 monitors.

From what I can tell, only nVidia chipsets now support SLi, but do I need SLi support? I'm not using them for gaming, just for lots of screen real estate when I'm doing work. My old rig did have SLi and they did have the SLi bridge connecting them and all was good.

It seems motherboards with crossfire seem cheaper, which would obviously be a bonus. So, do I need a SLi supported motherboard?

Thanks

I believe what he's asking is if he can run two cards WITHOUT them being in SLI. I'm pretty sure you can run 4 monitors off two cards running independantly without SLI or crossfire.

I'm sure someone will soon correct me if I'm wrong!

You can certainly run two nvidia cards on a crossfire board, but you cannot sli them.
So two 8800gts on a crossfire board will do four screens fine. Two on a sli board will do either four screens, or two screens faster.
