Quad or Dual core AMD for media server

wondering whether to get the quad or dual core amd trinity for a home server ...the quad core has more cache per core than the dual would that make a difference for a server hosting...videos/photos/watching mkvs and also browsing the net with if needed thanks
 
Dual core will be fine. if you look at the HP Microserver thread you'll see they have a dual core AMD 2.2ghz process.
for playing the HD Videos its probably mroe important to have a decent grapgics card i would say.
Obviously the more power the better though :)
 
Yea I would go for the fast chip, I run WebmediaPortal on mine to stream TV over the Internet and it does seem to use a lot of cpu resources. I have 2 freeview tuners and 1 freesat tuner and when two are recording and 1 streaming it starts to run out of steam.

Although it is only core duo dual core 2.4ghz cpu and 4Gbytes of ram.
