ok so i've always used consumer cards for 3ds max, but my workplace has quadro cards. they're thinking of upgrading graphics cards at work and cant decide between newer quadros or consumer cards.

whats the real world difference because personally i think the consumer card i have works better than the quadros at my work by a lot.

The only major difference is Quadro cards are designed to be stable and error free. Hardware wise they are 99% the same. Quadros are usually clocked lower at higher voltages than gaming cards and have much more stable and focused drivers and firmware and some have ECC RAM, and usually more of it too.

Basically unless your software is specifically written for the drivers or you need ECC RAM then a consumer card will be similar in performance only cheaper, but may not be as reliable. To a professional company it would be better to go for a Quadro as they will also have vastly better support :)

ECC sometimes. Usually BIOS and Drivers differences allowing higher levels of AA and other features for precision rather than speed.
