While playing Doom 3 BFG VR I was wishing my old favourite Quake 2 also worked. One hour later youtube suggested https://youtu.be/Zl7a98MBgus 'PLAY QUAKE II IN VIRTUAL REALITY ON HTC VIVE & OCULUS RIFT | Quake 2 VR MOD Gameplay'. If I didn't work for myself I'd be calling in sick tomorrow :)

Instructions from youtube -

To use this Quake II VR MOD with HTC Vive you need have Oculus Home and SteamVR running, and also the latest Revive software installed with Revive Dashboard running.

You will find the latest version of the Quake 2 VR MOD here: http://www.malcolm-s.net/q2vr/ (Big thanks to the modders for making this possible)

Get the Revive software from its Guthub page: https://github.com/LibreVR/Revive

Short Installation instructions (if you have the full Quake II game installed on Steam):
1. Download the quake2vr-2.0.0-bin.zip from the MOD website link above.
2. Extract the zip file in any directory on your computer.
3. Copy the following files and folders from your original Quake II baseq2 folder (Steam version) into the new baseq2 folder inside of the Quake 2 VR folder you just extracted from the zip file: - pak0.pak (file) - players\ (folder) optional - only if you want to play multiplayer - videos\ (folder) optional - only if you want cinematic cut scenes in game.
4. Start Oculus Home (yes it's also necessary for HTC Vive)
5. Start SteamVR (if you want to play it on Vive)

Start Quake 2 VR on Oculus Rift:
- Run quake2vr.exe to start it on Oculus Rift, game starts in your Virtual Reality headset.

Start Quake 2 VR on HTC Vive:
- Be sure to have Revive software installed and the Revive Dashboard running
- Right click on the Revive Dashboard icon and choose "Inject"
- Browse into the Quake 2 VR game folder, select quake2vr.exe and click Open.
- Game starts in VR on your HTC Vive headset automatically, no changes of settings are needed.

Thanks for the detailed instruction. Quake 2 is like riding a bike, it might have been 15 odd years, but you never forget/
As much as VR rules over everything these days, I don't think I could taint the happy times by trying it:)

20th anniversary soon.
