Does that look about right its with 4850 card also no other way to bench and see if the system is running as it should be

Isn't quake 4 capped at 90fps?? I think theres a command you can type into the console that lets you uncap it, but i'm not sure what it is. If your playing online i don't think you can get much more.

Does quake 4 run ok for you on vista?. I've had troubles getting it to run properly on Vista 64 Ultimate SP1. I've ticked "run as admin", but it still acts werid and closes to the desktop sometimes during gameplay.

I have that version of Vista and it runs fine. I don't remember having to do anything different to get it working - that sounds like a driver or memory issue rather than an admin problem.
 
Sounds like you've got vsync on, isn't the benchmark based on the multi-player "edge" map? It's been a while since i've played it but I seem to remember a 90fps cap option being introduced in one of the patches.
