is quake 4 supposed to look this bad on ultra settings ?

also, i have it set to run in 1680x1050 on target on properties and yet it still runs at 1920x1600, any ideas why ?

Looks like quake 2. Do you have the same problem when running the texture quality at high? It seems like the brightness/contrast is up way too high, but then again the textures don't seem right either.

Something is wrong there for sure. Are you missing a setting? Have you patched the game?

Looks like you've turned off shadows by mistake.

The Doom3 engine is all about lighting. If you turn off shadows and bump mapping etc it is very plain indeed.

i had force ambient light on.

it looks much darker now, your right about the lighting!

I guess if you cant polish a turd you cover it with shadows LOL

Yup, you are missing specular lighting, shaddows, fog, bumpmapping and a whole host of other effects...

does anyone know how to get rid of the console that runs when quake4 starts ?

normally i just press escape and go to the menu, but im trying to run a mod and when it loads the console covers it, i press escape and nothing happens, same if i press all the console buttons, all i can do is type exit to quick Q4 :rolleyes:

Do you mean the ingame console, or an openGL console on start-up?

Any ideas what to do about the error, using quake4 1.4.2 with the alpha of the mod which is team fortress for q4....

Its having problems loading files, i know that sounds obvious, but thats all i can see. Problem lies in a pk4 folder from the mod you tried to install. I suggest uninstalling everything, reinstall quake4, update it, then try the patch again.

Just use the tilde key (~ - next to 1) to close console? Got to agree with alexonfire with the solution - reinstall that mod - gamex86.dll is the issue...

tilde key wont work even with +set_console_mode 1 or whatever the command is!

dont think its a q4 error as vanilla q4 and multiplayer work fine!

No one said there was a problem with quake4, the problem lies with the mod. It hasn't installed properly, probably due to an update problem with the vanilla Q4.

CBA to play this tbh just installed with the latest patch playing ultra settings etc etc, it keeps crashing on single player oddly multiplayer is fine and I play flawlessly, it seems to crash in singleplayer as a new area is loading such as on the first level where you get the medic pack off some guy and then walk across too the door and meet the guard by the door, and the other point it crashes is when you meet back up with your team, it seems to be crashing as it auto saves or loads :/ tbh.
