i was attack in q4ctf best european team (we were mainly UK players with some euros) We tried pretty hard to stick q4 out, but it lost too much popularity early on, due to so many bugs and a range of other issues.
The main problem was that ID software outsourced the game to Raven software, who really did a bad job with the game, barely puttiong any focus on the multiplayer. So it took almsot a year for the 1.3 patch release to be released which supposedly made the game more fun, but more than 99% of the quake community had already left the game, and are not willing to look back.
