I've been informed by work they are willing to put me through a course of my choice (upwards of a few grand) that will benefit the company. I'm currently just been promoted in a 3rd line / systems support role and we rely on mostly citrix and our virtual infrastructure in general day-to-day workings.

My boss is going on the vmware course and they dont want us to both go on the same course. So other than going onto a citrix course (i'm familiar with the day to day administration / policies within citrix 4.5) can anyone think of a good suggestion?

I'm not that hot on the network side of things really, so maybe that would be a good idea. I just dont want to waste my opportunity for a big training course on cheap mcitp's

Cheers

The server MCITP courses weren't exactly cheap, the EA 'boot camp' at Firebrand is about 6 or 7k list price.

Well if your Boss has got dibs on the VMWare course that only leaves you maybe with networking, citrix or server infrastructure.

So if you use Cisco that's a start with CCNA, MCITP SA for Windows, or whatever the current Citrix course is (been a good few years since I did one of those).

I'd also recommend, as much as people laugh at them, the Comp TIA Security+, gives a good overview of security practices, something I personally think would benefit everyone in an IT dept.

Think about what you want to do, where you want to be career wise and tailor your training for that.

For instance no point doing Cisco stuff if something else is better suited.
