Hi guys,

I can't get education discount, so I'll have to rule that out from the off.

I want a macbook for general internet useage, iPod etc.

Torn between these choices : Max budget is around £700

1 : Brand new 2.1ghz Macbook with combo drive - £699

2 : Brand new 2.4 ghz Macbook - £829

3 : Refurb 2.2 Ghz Macbook with Superdrive - £615 after discount voucher.

At the moment I'm leaning towards option 3 - Its nearly £200 cheaper than the equivalent model out at the moment, leaving me with a budget to upgrade to 4gb ram.

Is this a good option? Apart from the brown box, will the macbook look brand new when I open it up?

Any help appreciated!

Ah ok, many thanks :) I personally would go for the 3rd option, the refurb Macbooks are supopse to be very good, I dont have one but a mate does. It was identical to a brand new one but came a brown box, it still has one year Apple care on it, if you aren't able to get a further education discount then refurb is the way to go in my opinion.

The refurb I recently got was as good as new, no marks or scratches, supplied with Tiger installed, but a Leopard DVD was supplied.

Well, got good news and bad news :

BAD NEWS :

Tried to order with the Apple Web store. The coupon wouldn't work any longer :(

GOOD NEWS :

Phoned them up, explained, and they reduced the macbook further to £610 inc. delivery :) Ordered!

It is the mid spec macbook that was revised a couple of months ago :

2.2ghz
1gb ram (4gb ram to be ordered for £50)
120gb HDD
Superdrive

Thats a good deal then, much cheaper than it is now and similar spec.

Good buy :), leaves extra £ for upgrades.
