Quality of Steam Games Plummeting

It seems to me that steams bar of expectation has really dropped. In the last month or two, the number of garbage indie titles under New Releases that should never make it past the poor mans section of an app market, and certainly should never have made it to steam is baffling. Just take a scroll down the New Releases bar and look at the drivel that is making it onto steam. DLC Quest for £1.60 - it looks like it was made in 5 minutes by a kid in his bedroom. It's not a steamworthy title.

Are steam really feeling that pressured by their competition that they feel the need to throw everything indie onto their store?

It was on greenlight, people voted for it... Why would steam not give people what they wanted...

Stop complaining. Don't buy it. Someone out there may really like a game you may hate.

Surely that's the beauty of so many different titles.

Except nearly all of these games have skipped the process of going through greenlight. I don't know what the requirements are that some games dont have to go through it.

No. They're trash. Steam used to be a quality platform for great titles. I don't want it saturated with garbage titles that were developed in a couple months and should be nothing more than an app game.

Yeah, better deny those indie devs getting support for their game because they don't meet your arbitrary standards for what should apply to a store that has the sole purpose of selling games. Steam isn't a quality showcase, it's a shop.

Can't say I agree, but each to their own. Don't buy it if you don't like it, there are still big budget titles available for sale.

I learn now never to judge a book by its cover. I dismissed Minecraft because it looks crappy and "old skoolish" and low quality but have spent more time on that in the past few years then any other game.
I dismissed terraria as "oh its minecraft but 2d" and skipped over it for ages but now its the steam game I've spent the most time on overal (minecraft isnt on my steam list). Just because it doesnt look good at first glance doesnt mean its not engaging, deep and highly addictive. And even if it isnt for YOU it might be for many other people.

Thread = FAIL

People don't like the same things, people will buy it and I would rather have the option to buy it then not at all. Back in the day all people used to do on the Amiga etc was make little games in their bedrooms :)

Lets crush all creativity and even better moan about one of the best outlets for the little guy making affordable games. Then let's moan about EA because they're a huge money making company.

Can't say I am generally a fan of indie titles, but each to their own. Don't have a problem with Steam expanding their selection since I am not forced to buy every new release.

Steam is not supposed to be some sort of epicurean selection of games - whatever gave you that idea? I am sure that when they eventually roll out their API you can get some sort of customised snobbish list of games, but in the case that something is being Green-lit by the community, you have lost pretty much all grounds for complaint.

Anyway, more importantly, what does it matter to you - just don't buy the game if it offends and if COD and co. are more appealing, I think that Steam already caters for those....

Why wouldnt Steam sell bad games as well as good? Cinemas show bad movies, bookshops sell bad books, restaurants serve bad food. Are you some kind of special elite because you use steam? Only the best will doodle-do etc?

Tbh I don't see the problem. Nobody is forcing you to buy every game on Steam, so just be selective? In real life we have to be very selective about our purchases because most companies today have huge Marketing budgets, and will sell you a turd if you let them.

Being able to tell the gold from the dross is an essential life skill today.

Or are you saying there are no good new games on Steam?
