Quality shirts

I'm a 32" waist and 38" chest and the Charles tyrwhitt slim fit are perfect for me. Make sure you have a minimum of 5 so only washing and wearing once a week and they last ages.

TM Lewin are as good as Thomas Pink, if not better and certianly offer better value.

Some of the premium M&S ones are good too.

Any recommendations for shirts to fit someone with an athletic build?

I'm usually between a 34 and 36 inch waist, but 44-46 inch chest. Neck is about 17 for comfort. I've tried the tailored TM Lewin shirts, but they're very tight on the arms, I even tore one of the arms at work.

I normally find standard fit shirts good over the shoulders chest and arms but massive around the waist. Slimmer fitting shirts i have trouble with the arms, shoulder and chest, they also normally come up a little short in length.

I'm contemplating just buying some decent quality shirts on sale somewhere in a standard fit and getting they tailored to fit my waist a little better, as i did that with my wedding shirt.

Also for cheap shirts Moss Bros are normally pretty decent, and have a selection of brands to choose from.

I bought a few Charles Tyrwhitt shirts a while ago and ended up returning them all as even in the slimmest fit they did they were far too baggy. Am I just exceptionally twig-like or have others experienced this too? The only shirts I've found that have a good fit on me are Next shirts.

CT shirts are a bit deceptive sizes wise if you just buy quickly at face value and their "default" options are usually larger than the comparable bracket elsewhere i.e. their "shorter" option is actually closer to regular that you'd buy elsewhere and you'd have to go into the custom options (usually an extra price) and select the shortest one there :S you do need to get your measurements right and double checked buying from them.

Normally for just a plain, formal, hard wearing shirt I'd recommend somewhere like M&S but even they have become a bit hit and miss these days :( some of my better wearing ones are linea (now HoF exclusive) but they aren't the cheapest option.

only have Hawes and Curtis after trying most of the others and found they gift the best fit for me and decent amount of wear resistance.

probably a good option, otherwise made to measure/tailored

shirts are made for 'average' sizes... so a slim waist but with large neck, large arms isn't going to fit the typical slim fit shirt

Old Navy
They do some really cheap stuff but the quality is fairly decent.

Also do very good quality shirts I find.

both US brands but I'm over there every year or so, so buy loads to bring back.

Hawes & Curtis
TM Lewin
Reiss
Austin Reed

Personally I just get the Next tailored fit ones for work. I find them actually pretty good for the price

I find TM Lewin are the best quality and fit without spending £100+ per shirt. They usually have good offers on as well whenever I've been.

They are awful... The othe two main shirt makers are much better.

I personally go for CK shirts as the fit is better. Can get the. From Moss Bros for £70 each or quite regularly they do 3 for 2, which is when I buy them. Works out as about the same price as CT but better fit (for me at least).

Have just checked the size guide after you said that and you're right, they are much larger than normal! Normally I buy a 15.5" collar for a 37.5" chest, from CT I'd need a 14.5" collar. Luckily I never have to wear a tie, otherwise there's no way I'd be able to do the top button up on one of those!
