Quarkie Review - Great $50 < IEMs < $100 for as little as £3!!

Muddy is so very far away from what my set sounds like - they're way up there for clarity and spaciousness. Burn in may help though I must admit I didn't notice a great difference - they did open up a bit though in fairness.

Muddy is probably the incorrect word as that usually refers to the mids. To me, the highs and high mids don't offer anywhere near as much clarity as my budget HTC IEMs or soundmagic e10s.

I'll give them a burn in, see if that improves things. It doesn't bother me too much, they were only £3.

The upper treble is rolled quite a bit, on the plus side there is zero sibilance and they're easy to listen to for long periods of time.

Yeah, missed out on a free set recently - left the VIP voucher at home... Very heavily discounted indeed, I'll try and get my hands on a pair at some point! Good shout :)

Agree with shortwarning, bass is bloated, the mids are muddy and the highs are rolled off. Even sounds a bit harsh. Will try burning them in for a bit but they don't sound very good! This is the rusty bolts. Maybe they started using lower quality components when sales were poor? However, the sound is good for £3-4!

Mine are two years old now, so maybe something did change - I was looking to sell my pair and wanted to see the current market prices to gauge an idea on what I could get for them... Saw them for £3 and my jaw dropped.

Bass bloat does indeed sound like they changed something, as mine are perhaps lacking in bass and the Quarkies were designed and marketed as analogies to studio monitors.

[edit] - opinion on hold may have technical problem...

well if anyone read that before I edited it you would have read an angry rant about how bad they were; I had a servere problem so decided to try a frequency sweep on my phone and heard no isues, so tried some music too and they sounded fine :S nothing like what I heard through my mac at work - turns out the 4-pole jack on the Quarkies was not compatible with the small 3.5mm extension I have and now instead of the IEM's being the worst things I have ever heard; they sound like like proper bargains! will give my full an proper opinion after some more listening.

the conflict can be worked around by using the provided signal splitter, which must account for 3-pole to 4-pole conversion. handy :)

Just tried the reptile eye one and it sounds much better than the rusty bolt one I tried earlier! Definitely a bargain!
