Thinking about gettin a new car, made a thread about this before and got dogged for sayin it but, the car in question is a megane coupé, I dont care what you say, its a nice car. 1.6 16v and if you saw the car I've been drivin for the past 3 years you'd think I deserved a nice car too.
Anyway, the one I'm lookin at this time is a V reg in midnight blue I think. very nice. However, the car has done 115 thousand miles and as a result costs 2 grand.
Now, normally if I knew that a car like this had done this many miles it would be ruled out immediately, I wouldn't mind if it was Audi or VW but I know what Renault is like. But, and its a big but, the guy who's selling it is one of my mum's best mates husband and he owns a garage of his own, he used to sell Lexus and Renault directly so I think that gives him the kind of knowledge that comes in handy.
My mum also bought a megane coupe off him a few years ago and she hammers it from Manchester to Leeds and back everyday 5 days a week so gets a fair bit of wear out of it, anyway, her engine went pretty much totally and she got it "rebuilt" is the correct term but she maintains its nearly a new engine, it cost her 900 quid anyway and she hasnt had a problem with it since.
The one I'm interested in also has its engine rebuilt and the guy selling it, sold it before to a guy who had it for 3 years and did 20k miles on it without a problem.
Because we know him hes said he'll do it for me for 1700 which I think is good of him seein as how it is his livelihood.
Anyway, my first question is is this a good deal? The car itself is in extremely good nick, the only thing physically wrong with it he said is the motor in the driver side electric window doesnt work.
Secondly, cos I didnt want to make 2 threads, concerns insurance. My insurance at the moment is 670 on my 13 year old battered up white L reg Clio. I insure my mum on it as a second driver as it knocks a few hundred quid off.
Getting a quote for this new coupé, comes out on a few sites as around the 750 mark, however, as per the advert on TV for Direct Line, you can still earn no claims discount if you're the second driver so if I insure my mum as main driver and myself as a second driver it comes out as 312.50, considerably less.
Before we havent done this because my mum always says she wants me to earn my own no claims as I'll save moeny in the long run. But also she says you can't be insured as the main driver on 2 cars, which I dont believe but also because you're supposed to drive a certain number of miles to qualify as the main driver but I dont get how they could ever enforce that rule.
So is this possible? Can I insure myself as the second driver and my mum the main and still earn no claims with a basic quote on direct line or is it a special kind of quote and can she be the main driver on 2 cars.
Phew, sorry about the massive thread but any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
