Query about Arctic Silver 5.

I bought Arctic Silver 5 about four years ago when I last built my computer. I’m about to build another computer and I was wondering if the Arctic Silver 5 from four years ago is good to use again. It’s been kept in the fridge as suggested four years ago.
 
Was going to suggest you lob it in the bin and invest in some MX-3 but that will only start a thermal compound war!!!!...lol :)

Give it a go, but be prepared to take it all apart again and put a replacement on instead if the temps get out of hand.

Let us know how you get on and the rest of us can use it as a reference in future :)

Is MX-3 better than Arctic Silver 5?

Just like everyone else, I only want to use the best.

It's a big debate issue within the forum.... but I would say that it's the current overall fav. amongst the self build community
 
I've got a tube of as5 that's around 5 years old, and it still performs the same.

I know this because my mum is still using my pc from those days. I put a new blob of TIM on there about a year ago when refurbished it for her, and the temperatures are still where they should be. I don't think silver degrades with age ;)

I loved actic silver and still have some now but the bind is the 200 hours curing times. Paste like the mx series will cure in 2 hours or so to give you roughly the same or better temps than as5 and also wont brick your cpu if your heavy handed with the paste.

i think every computer forum and this war lol. anyway i think that &$£""££"%£$%"£ is the best
 
Used both, MX-3 easier to use, always used AS5. Purely because it was the best at the time, and it last yonks. Just squeeze out the first blob and discard.

I now use MX3, purely because it came with my bundle and this will also last yonks :)
 
I’ve just checked my old Arctic Silver 5. Looks like it separated. There was a clear sticky glue-like gel and then hard black toffee.

I’ve just ordered some MX-3 from OCs.
