Hi,

I was looking into getting a wifi printer from Canon, I noticed on their driver support page you can download the network setup tool for printer. You basically connect it via usb to the computer, install the drivers and then configure the wifi part using the software.

However, how would I go about letting the other computers on the network print from it via wifi without having to individually install the driver and run the setup tool on each computer as I have a few and it would take some time.

When the printer is configured for wifi and prints wirelessly, is it added into the routers attahced devices with it's own I.P. Then it's just a matter of using the network printing wizard to scan for printers on all the computers.

I have a fair amount of knowledge on wireless networking... just never had a wifi printer before. I would just like to be sure how it works before I go ahead and buy one.

Any advice is very much appreciated.

1st computer pulg in to printer with USB, run tool, configure wireless, install driver (as one setup)

2nd machine run install wiz, say its an existing printer (not a new one) and it skips the USB / wireless config part)

unless its a more expensive printer then you can skip the USB bit and set the wirless up on the printers control pannel

I know with my epson for £60 quid it says the same in the instruction booklet connect via usb on each of the computers and then enable wireless.

All I did was after I purchased it though was to basically set the information via the screen for wifi, ip, ssid and printer name.

It connected via the wireless network itself and all I did was click "Add Printer" on the PC's and then networked printer and my printer was in the list.

Vista and Widnows 7 drivers installed automatically but I had to manually download the files for XP.
