I have a chance of buying back my old CM atcs 200 rev2 (the better one of the two I've owned btw, complete with original windowed side panel) and coloured "slate grey"). The only thing putting me off is the cooling and noise side of things. I can fit 2 x 80mm quiet fans in the front, and modify the rear to accomodate 2 another pair (just involves a bit of material removal and making up na new mounting plate).
Now, I tried out mounting an akasa 120mm externally on me old 201 (another cm I've owned that me brother in law has got) by using a 120mm to 80mm adapter which is a peice of cake to do AND is very quiet, so I've got another option. If I was to go for 2 x 80mm at the rear, what are the best fans from a noise/airflow ratio I can use?

SilenX fans are pretty good, well very good infact.

Will you be using a fan controller or are you just going to volt mod them?

Any fan you put into a 2** ATCS can be ran at 5v with no real adverse affects from what I have experienced, they remove heat very well just by their design.

Nope, just wanna buy the fans and instal them, lol. The only thing nagging me is that I'm currently using and Antedc SLK3000B with 2 x 120mm akasa fans running at minimum and its quiet to say the least with very good airflow, and I really don't want to sacrifice quietness and airflow for aesthetics.

The SilenX fans are just about as good as they come at the moment, youll know which model when you browse a shop with them in stock :)

What I have in a 201 and a Cheiffy scorpio I have and they are near inaudible at 7v.

Check the sticky, like you already have ;) And there in the case fan bit towards the bottom is a PDF with all the fans from the 80mm era and there ratings :)

That should be helpful if you want a nose over them!

Cheers for that mate.

No worries, could always email me or buzz me on msn (same addie) if you need to talk about the SilenX fans further, or need some faster chit chat :p

Your on late :p

And there are loads of manufacturers to choose from, however be warned Akasa amber style fans aint to good at 80mm size, 120mm they are brilliant but they dont push enough air at low volume in there 80mm flavour.

Right, I've got the atcs 200 here, and installed me stuff, and Oh god, is it loud! Thats with four ystech silent 80mm fans. Mind you, its all relative I suppose, I'm used to an antec SLK3000B with two 120 fans set at the lowest speed possible, so this system is gonna be louder, I wasn't expecting it to be this loud though.
Looks like I'm gonna have to get some REAL QUIET 80mm fans, probably papst, acoustifan, although, what are the zalman 80mm jobbies like? Zalman are renowned for quietness and shoving a fair amount of air too, but I'm open to suggestions.
BTW its 03:17 here and I've just finished and it all works fine thankfully.

You need to lower the volts on ANY 80mm fan, but the Zalmans come with a adapter to do this and are ok in the noise stakes :p

But lower voltages are the key!

That'll do for me then, zalman fans it is then, cheers mate. On a side note, I'm showing 25c idle temps here, so at least those fans appear to be doing their job.........still bloody noisy though, lol.

Surely you don't need 4 fans!! I don't have any in my 201 and CPU idle is now 41 which is good considering i now have my pc in the living room which is quite warm.

The 201's need the intake for cooling hard drives, the cage they are in can be a pain for holding heat on the newer drives.

Only flaw with running them passive, I usually run 1 Zalman at the back and 3 SilenX for the others, 5v at front and 7v on top blowhole if the case has one.

That keeps the temps on anything lower than any gaming case I have ever had the pleasure of using. Very quiet aswell.
