Just wanted to know if anyone has had this happen to them before -

Build -

7800X3D
4090
PCIE GEN 5 SSD
64GB DDR5 RAM

It's located in a garden office so does get cold in there, never below freezing however.

Occasionally and I do mean occasionally..

On boot when windows loads up before inputting PIN FPS and speed is essentially like a power point display, heavy stuttering and slow performance, even when inputting the PIN the delay is huge. Once the pin is entered windows loads and again is very slow stuttering and unresponsive almost like something is draining resources in background.

A reset from windows clears it completely on the next boot ?

Not really sure what I can do to fault find or trace given how sporadic it happens?

I don't know what the likelihood is that Windows is corrupted, but it's easy to check. Open the command prompt as admin and run: sfc /scannow.

My suspicion would be on the SSD. Do you have any sort of thermometer or any way to register just how cold it is getting in the garden office?

You could try to move the base unit back into the house and test/try it there to see if the issue still persists.

Edit: Just as posting this found online that apparently most consumer grade SSDs should be fine in temp range of 0°C to 70°C (32°F to 158°F). So maybe not an issue with the SSD.

I need to get a thermometer, the next time I get something like this I’ll put a bit more thought into winter temps and protection.

The problem with bringing it inside is the frequency it happens, I could go weeks with nothing and then it could happen 2 days in a row.

Aah ok. It's my first thought. It might make sense that once it's warmed up a bit, then it's more responsive and the PC then appears to work fine.

But after posting earlier I could see searching on Google they should be fine as low as 0 C.
