Hey,
I just bought a PC from this site containing an Intel Core i7 920 OCed to 4.0GHz and am extremely happy btw so thanks overclockers.co.uk!!!

Now my question is whats the max safe CPU temperature for a processor like mine (if there is one at all) because when I running CoD4 (which to my knowledge isn't such a CPU intensive game) the CPU's temperature goes up to 69C (and idles at about 51-55C) and freaked out a bit at first so I underclocked the CPU back to ~2.85 Ghz and is running at a nice 59C max when playing CoD4 (idles at around 43-46C).

i believe Intel's max is about 72C so i would be worried if it was hitting 69-70C

based on my e2180 i know 72 is max things may have changed but i doubt it for the i7's

10x for your opinion f12f12.
After searching the forum for a bit I noticed that there are a few folks who are running an i7 at considerably higher temperatures but am not sure if it's safe or if they are pushing it a bit.

i think intel have the max temp for that cpu at 100c, however most people like to keep it around 60-70c load.

I belive Intel's spec is 69c max, however a wide amount of people Prime up to 85c including myself. The Cpu can protect itself, it will throttle then close down to prevent damage at approx 100c.

The standard ocuk 4ghz bundle has quite a high voltage of 1.3v on the CPU. You may find that you can drop yours a little to reduce your temps. The higher the vcore the higher the temp under idle and load.

The stock 2.66/2.8 setting has auto voltage and it goes quite a lot lower, hence your low temps now.

It all depends what sensor your reading from, if its the overall cpu temp then 72c.

If going by coretemps then upto 100c.

But as it was said earlier, aslong as you leave thermal control on, then there is no need to worry at all.

From the sounds of the OP post, he is probably reading the overal cpu temp.
