I am new to VR gaming and computers when it comes to PC’s. I still have a 13 year old iMac.

I just bought an Oculus Quest 2. I would like to know SPECIFICALLY exactly what I need PC wise and what other accessories I would need to experience the complete VR experience.

I’m not looking for a ‘bare bones’ PC system to play. I don’t mind spending more for a computer that will run games really well.

Again, what accessories and or downloads I will need. Will I need to sign up for SteamVR?

Please be very specific in any advice or guide me to any articles that can really explain in detail what is needed.

Thank you so much in advance for any help you can give.

1. What's your budget?
2. What VR games do you want to play?
3. SteamVR is free.
4. Software - something really necessary is the RemoteDesktop App which is like £15 (will allow you to play wirelessly)
5. Are you familiar with PC building?

Just a quick clarification on no. 4, you no longer need to get this as a new free feature for Quest 2 is out called Air Link which allows wireless PC streaming and I've found is pretty much the same performance as desktop but obviously for free. Virtual Desktop does have its own advantages and features though!

So I have a Quest 2 and play wireless vr on it fairly often. Play a range of VR games from fairly light to heavy like Half Life Alyx and Asgard's Wrath.
Have a 3700x and 16gb 3200 Ram as well as a 2080 Ti. I would say this level of performance is overkill for a some games but the Quest 2 has a high resolution so for heavy games it can be fully used.

Would you be wanting to play games like Half Life Alyx and Sims like Elite Dangerous and Driving games or more rhythm games and such?

Just remember the games are streamed to the Quest 2 its not the same as a dedicated VR headset like the rift meaning if the game plays ok on the PC without the headset it will play fine with the headset. Just as an example a GTX 1070/1080 was fine with Quest 1. There is also a plethora of settings you can change (especially on Virtual Desktop) to improve the performance.
